I have learned of great news. School will be out two weeks for the Christmas holidays. Finally, I can get back to beading. I have no idea what new patterns I will come up with. I need bead therapy. I have spent the last there weeks writing over 10,000 words. That's a challenge when you type with two fingers!

Duct Tape The Snake !

This is "Duct Tape." He is my new pet snake. I saved his life today. He owes me one.

This morning when I woke up it was so hot. I stumbled to the dining room to turn on the air conditioner. My eyes are getting bad and I need a new pair of glasses. As I was reaching up to turn the on air, I noticed the duct tape near the top of the air conditioner had fallen down. Then suddenly I realized it had not fallen, a snake had pushed it down and was resting on the top of my air conditioner. I screamed like a little girl. Don't get me wrong, I like snakes. I think they are beautiful and misunderstood.

I decided to use my trusty broom pole and simply push him out the window. Poor guy. He was stuck to the duct tape and I could not just throw him out to bake in the sun. It is all about karma. I took down the duct tape snake and all. They had become bonded together as one. Poor little fellow was wiggling and trying to set himself free, but that Dollar General Store duct tape is some mighty sticky stuff!

After I made him promise three times that he would not bite me, I proceeded to peel him off the duct tape. Let's just say what happened after that could best be described him having a love hate relationship with me. It looked very grim at times but in the end he escaped unscathed.

Just saying...hard work pays off!

Butterflies are one of the most fascinating creatures on Earth. Acknowledging their metamorphosis brings comfort when pondering Life and Death.

One of the most fascinating stories I have ever read is by Elizabeth Kubler Ross. Her story is not about butterflies. It is about children drawing pictures of butterflies. There were many on the walls in concentration camps. It is a fascinating story and I encourage everyone to read it.

Today I received an email from Tara. She is requesting a custom beaded butterfly in memory of her sister.

I started making this butterfly shortly after my dad passed away. I miss him. I need to bead.When I found the butterfly resting peacefully in the tin, it brought a sense of comfort over me. I left her there so many years ago and she has been waiting quietly for me to return.
Soon she will fly.

When her wings are finished I will say good bye.

Why didn't someone tell me I would have to pawn the title to my van to to pay for all the ink I'll need to finish my degree? Now I know why college students are so skinny and bug-eyed. You can't afford to buy food because you must spend a fortune on ink cartridges. Even if there is a little money left over to buy food, you buy energy drinks to keep you awake so you can finish your assignments on time! Good grief I need a drink. I'm not talking about the energy kind. I need something stronger.

All kidding aside, I am having a blast with my online classes. Who knew? I don't know everything. I feel like the guy in the commercial who has been surfing the internet and looks up and says, "I'm finished." I feel like I have read the entire internet! Thank goodness the University of Phoenix is patient with me. So far so good. I highly recommend UoP for online college. I need to learn how to be patient with them, because I want everything yesterday.

I will get some bead work done tonight. First I need to finish reading 8974 more pages of required reading, make 7 Power Point presentations, write 18 papers, drink one more energy drink and eat some pizza rolls.

Back to beading as promised.

Stained Glass Long Needle Case Pattern

Here's the rough draft of a long needle case pattern I am working on.

So far there are only 3 colors. I hope to mix it up a bit and have maybe 7 colors by the time I get it finished. I forgot how fun it is to design needle cases. Awww, the process. Such fun.

I have printed and bound two of my books. I am still working on the finishing touches. I hope to offer them at craft shows, bead stores and on my website soon.

Business has been booming. I look forward to a wonderful Fall and Winter.

Why did I weep?

Why did I weep for a child I never met? The answer is simple. I am selfish. I wanted Justice for Caylee. Like so many others I am shocked at the verdict. I stand by what I believe happened to Caylee and why. Watching the trial reinforced my belief. I have no reasonable doubt.

How could this have happened? It's the American way. Is everybody happy now? I for one am not happy. Would things have turned out differently had a professional jury judged her? I believe they would have. I believe that it is time the United States considers making changes in the jury selection process. The thought of professional jurors sounds like a good idea, but nothing is perfect. I am sure they have their own issues too.

I have been scratching my head trying to make sense of what happened. I've realized that if I don't stop, they will soon be a hole in my head. It is over. Caylee is gone. Nothing can bring her back. There will be no Justice for Caylee, in a court of Law, on this Earth. Sad but true. It is what it is. Not guilty is not the same thing as innocent.

I followed the case initially because I like to solve crimes. I waited three years to see Justice served. It was not. Instead I witnessed more crimes committed. That is not what I was expecting. At the same time, I am not surprised.

Everyone does grieve in their own way. I am no exception. Everyone does it at their own pace too. Caylee. She was an innocent child that fell victim to a horrible situation. I pray that she is resting in Peace.

I believe in Karma. I believe that every dog has it's day. I know that psychopaths self destruct. Nature will take it's course. I know that God has a plan.

Many of you know that bead work is my therapy. I have not had therapy in a while and I need some. No matter what new things I try, I always go back to beading. I am returning to college in a few weeks. I love new adventures. Don't worry, I won't be gone long because I always go back to beading.

Preparing for closing arguments.

Caylee Marie Anthony has touched many lives. Mine is no exception. I was living in Maine when her remains were discovered. I have done a great deal of research on this case. Forensic analysis on my computer would be impressive. I'm sure many others can say the same.

In the beginning, I quickly came to the conclusion that her mother no longer wanted her. Motive was simple. Would things have turned out differently if Caylee had been adopted by someone outside of the Anthony family? I believe they would have. Unfortunately we will never know.

Is there Justice for Caylee? I'm not sure what Justice for Caylee would be. I have strong feelings about whether or not punishment for crimes against children is ever just. Children are vulnerable and dependent on others. Crimes have been committed against children that could not even cry for help. An adult can not go back in time and place themselves at an earlier stage of growth and development. They can remember working through stages but once they have passed through them they can not unlearn them. When an adult is sentenced to death or life in prison they may be in shock, but they get it. A child doesn't even know what death or life without parole means.

Jeff Ashton and Linda Drane Burdick are Caylee's only hope at Justice. I pray that they have the strength they need to continue their fight for Caylee. I pray the jury agrees with my verdict. Guilty of first degree premeditated murder. I trust Judge Perry will give the appropriate sentence.

Many people have given their opinions on this case. Some have been experts and some have been people like me who want justice for victims and want to learn more about human behavior. While doing research I came across a blog written by Peter and Heather Hyatt. Their blog is about Statement Analysis. I encourage everyone to read their blog. The talking heads are entertaining at times but Peter and Heather get to the truth. Their blog is where I go to sort it all out and make sense of it all.

I, like so many who never met Caylee, need closure. I console myself. I believe that Caylee is resting in Peace. I accept that true Justice for the crimes against her may never be served on this Earth.

I only made one post on my blog the whole month of June. Unbelievable! What in the world has kept me so busy? There have been many changes in my personal and professional life. So many that I have a hard time recalling all the details.

My children are growing up! I am so proud of them. They are smart, kind and considerate. Their hearts are pure and they have good intentions. They are resourceful and I know that if something happened to me they have the skills they need to take care of themselves. Mission accomplished.

My son is working as a plumber and finally the toilet doesn't leak anymore! He is a very talented musician. His band will be playing in some local shows this month. I will be the proud mom in the audience with tears in her eyes.

My daughter plans to attend Kennesaw next year. She plans to teach English as a second language and travel the world. My gypsy ways have rubbed off on her. She is adventurous and welcomes a challenge.

I've come to a point in my life where I can either slow down and semi retire or take on a whole new challenge. After much debate and soul searching with the support of my children, I have decided to return to college. I have often times considered myself "a jack of all trades, a master of none." There are only a few things in life I have done longer than nursing. I look forward to the day I hold my Master's Degree.

Beaded Personalized Stethoscopes

This is an easy way to personalize a stethoscope.

Here is what you will need:

Alphabet Beads
Various Beads and Spacers
Wire Snip Tool
Crimping Tool
Hemostats
Bead String Wire
Two Crimp Beads
Two Small Slip Rings
Two Small Rubber Bands (like those used with braces)

String the beads as desired and attach the ends to a slip ring.
Then add a small rubber band on each slip ring.

The rubber band is important.
If you only use a slip ring
the embellishment will slide around and
be at risk of breaking.
The rubber bands will prevent this.

Hopefully I will get a Lady Bug bracelet drafted tonight. That is if I survive the falling trees around me. I am trembling as I write this. It has been raining but stopped now. I suppose that was all that was needed to add enough weight to the trees that were damaged by our recent tornado. It is very scary to hear trees suddenly start cracking and falling when the wind is not blowing and no one is running a chain saw. Especially when the first few that fell brushed the one in my power line. A huge tree top fell and I thought it was over. Moments later the whole tree fell. Scary but I like the new view.

It might be a little hard to see in this photo, but this is the difference a black Sharpie can make. Sometimes white thread is the best choice. I wanted to keep the wings looking transparent. If you have some black beads on the edges of your bead work, you can go back when you are finished beading and color the thread with a black Sharpie.

What's Buzzing on the Bead Tray now!

Here are some beading tips for you.

Delica beads are expensive. You probably already knew that! To keep from losing beads and having them mingle with others, I highly recommend you buy a divided bead dish like the ones I sell on my website. Get them here. Only pour out a few beads in the dish at a time. You never know when disaster may strike and the whole tray winds up in the floor! Let's hope that doesn't happen but we all now it can and will when you least expect it.

If you are like me every second counts. Taking out bead work and having to redo makes me crazy. What a waste of time. I could be two rows ahead by the time I finish fixing my mistakes. To prevent this, get yourself a pencil. You can use a pen or even a crayon if you like but, I have found pencils work best because most of them come with erasers and you might need that too. Mark off each row as you go. Depending on how long a row is, I sometimes break it down into sections. Save a copy of the pattern. Who knows you might want to make it again and if you have marked all over it, you better hope that pencil came with a really nice, big eraser!

Put the pattern on a clipboard. Secure the bottom of the page with a rubber band. That will keep the bottom edge of the pattern from curling up. Not only does it work well, people with clipboards look important. Well, most of them think so anyway!

Get yourself a nice wooden tray or box that the bead dish, scissors, tubes of beads and the clipboard will all fit in. Don't sit on the couch and think the bead tubes won't go anywhere if you lay them down beside you for just a few minutes. They will disappear forever. The couch will eat them and you will never see them again!

Scissors. Get yourself a nice pair of itty-bitty ones. If I didn't already have so much stuff I would start a scissor collection. They too will find comfort and safety in that wooden tray mentioned earlier. Never run with scissors. Not even the itty-bitty ones. You could fall and hurt yourself.

Always use black thread when ever possible. It likes to hide in the shadows. White thread can be colored with Sharpies. I am going to use this trick on the honey bee. I'll post more on that later with pics and everything!

Store your needles in a wooden needle case. It's a tradition of great bead artists. Bead around that needle case and keep an eye on it because some of my favorites have disappeared and it was not the couch that ate them!

Why you haven't heard from me

I received a text from my daughter. She said, "If we die I love you." Fortunately my family is safe. Others were not as lucky. There were multiple tornadoes in Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. I continue to hear the same story from so many. Few had any clue what was about to happen. I lost power about 9am. Shortly after that I fell asleep. I had no idea a tornado was just a few blocks away from me ripping down power lines and the rooftops off of houses. Late in the evening I stood outside and watched the storm in the distance. It looked like a battlefield. There were flashes of yellow, pink and purple lights that lit up the whole sky. It was several days before I was able to get on the internet and see the damage in Ringgold, Ga. and Apison, TN. No words can describe the devastation. Many lives were lost. Some of the stories I have heard from fellow employees at the hospital are too sad and shocking to share. Some of the victims from as far away as Alabama are still recovering in our hospital. Please pray for them and their families.

Natalie Montgomery is a very special lady. She has set high goals and she has achieved them. Along her journey she has touched so many lives. She truly is the best friend, nurse and boss I have ever known. My feelings are shared with many. Natalie has a huge heart. She has a gift of accepting nurses for who they are and not wanting to change them. Instead she offers them safe harbor in which they can learn and grow.

Myself and others can only pray that she can find a way to stay. We will be lost without her.

Out of Africa

The Out of Africa series is on hold. Inspiration comes and designs are created. When a pattern stumps me and I develop beaders's block I must move on. That is how the flutterby series was born. Just when you least expect it you find it.

When the caterpillar thinks his life is over, he turns into a beautiful butterfly. This is a thought I sometimes share with dying patients and their families. Please read about Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and the butterflies in concentration camps. Read about them here.

Little Easter Bunny Bracelet

Beaded Needle Case Collection

What is a girl to do with so many
beaded needle cases?

You may ask yourself,
"Does she really have that many needles that need a home?"

Several of the ones I have beaded are not pictured here because they were given to special people in my life.

Just for fun let's do some math. It takes approximately 2028 Delica beads to bead a long needle case. It takes approximately 1308 Delica beads to bead a short needle case. That means it has taken around 48,762 Delicas, plus a few dropped on the floor to bead my needle cases! Each bead is passed through with needle and thread twice. Okay, now that is just more info than I want to release.
Sorry, I had to know.....97,524 passes!

If you are wondering how many inches of thread this is,
forget it.
I will not go there!

You can comfortably fit 30+ needles in a needle case. Do you see where I am going with this? It would take over 1000 needles to fill my needle cases' bellies! In other words, Please send needles. I need them.
My needle cases are hungry.

This is my favorite flower. The first time I saw one I was horseback riding in the woods behind my house. I had stopped for a rest. When I looked down there it was. At first I thought it was artificial. I had never seen a flower like this before. Later I discovered it is the Passion Flower. I tried to root it it but was unsuccessful. Years later I moved into the house I live in now. Much to my surprise a huge Passion Flower vine started growing in my backyard. I could not believe it. Because I am not happy unless I have a beaded needle case project going on, I decide to make this one next. I hope my Passion Flower vine returns this year. I look forward to seeing it again.

Needle Case Lid Patterns

Soon I will be adding a collection of needle case lid patterns for purchase on my website. When I first started maiking these I must admit the lid patterns were very random. I wasn't sure how they were going to turn out. I discovered that it is easy to make many different designs. I feel like those of you who also enjoy making beaded needle cases might find a collection of lid patterns helpful.

Many of you have contacted me about the lids being too large. My bad. I should have told you sooner that sometimes you must sand the lids down to make them flush with the body of the case. I hate doing this part but it is necessary to make 36 beads fit around the lid so that they will interlock with the 36 beads on the body of the case. I purchase wooden needle cases from many different suppliers. Sometimes I get lucky and no sanding is required.

The pattern below, is number 12 in the second collection of 12 patterns I will be offering for $12.00. You can thank Juls for this one. It is a spin off of the needle case I made for her. I love the design, but I am not real happy with the colors I chose for this pattern. I think other colors would look better. But, if you are like me, you rarely use exactly the colors suggested. You use what you have. Watch my website for this collection. I wish I had more time to bead. But for now, I can't quit my night job. So, it might be a while before I get the collection available as a single download. Please be patient.

One of my favorite things to do is write things out in beads. I will also be posting a FREE peyote alphabet small enough to use on wooden needle cases.

Here's a sneak peak at my next needle case pattern. You know me by now. I will not release the pattern until I have beaded it. Tweak, tweak, tweak.

My computer crashed this week. URGHHHHH to the power of a billion! After I finally got it restored to the original factory condition, blah, blaghty, blah...I discovered it was just a bad cable on the wireless router. URGHHHHHHHHH to the power of 100 billion. I have had great fun putting programs back on my computer, looking up passwords, trying to remember bookmarks and the like. NOT! NOT! NOT!

On the bright side, bright orange to be exact, UPS delivered my new Keen shoes and I have very happy feet! I can't wait to go fishing in them. If you doubt I love to fish check out this video.

Still snowbound!

The little black bus is still stuck at the top of driveway. Will the high in the 40's this weekend be enough to melt the snow? Not complaining. The gorgeous white snow reminds me of my adventures in Maine. Cherished memories I will never forget. The people I met there will always hold a special place in my heart. They are hard working and creative souls. I miss them.

As for the Mad Hatter. I can hardly wait to bead him up. I tweaked the old pattern. Already I like him much better. He needed boots and mushrooms. Hopefully I can have him finished by midnight! Will this complete the Beyond Wonderland series? Doubt it. There still is Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum. Who is your favorite character in the story of Alice in Wonderland?

I have had so much fun making these little characters. I am considering making a series of different characters that will represent the nations of the World. Right after I finish the geometric designs, the flowers, the petroglyphs, wild animals and the list goes on. When will the needle case madness end? Never I hope!

This little guy has been so patient waiting for me to get my back to him. Beads are like that. They will wait on you. I started him and things just did not look right. I have reworked the pattern and changed some of the colors. Hopefully I can finish a few more pieces in the Beyond Wonderland Needle Case Series while I am snowbound. I completed the Mad Hatter as a short needle case. Then I realized he would be the only one short. So, guess what? He is next to be reworked. Picky, picky, picky! For now, excuse me while I go into bead meditation therapy. If you need me, I'll be in the brick house on the hill with the long steep driveway for the next several days or so.

Just saved a feathered friend!

All of the sudden I heard that dreaded thump. A feathered friend had flown into my bedroom window. Reluctantly, I pushed the window open and all I could see were a few tail feathers sticking up out of the freshly fallen snow. No signs of life. I did not disturb her. I felt it best to let the the coolness of the snow numb her pain. I kept watch over her. Later, much to my surprise, she had managed to pull herself up from her demise. As I approached her she remained calm. When I reached down to lift her from her self made igloo, she made a promising flight. She landed in the Holly bush and struck a pose! After a short rest, she took off into the woods and joined a friend who had been waiting. I admired their strength as they flew off into the snowy woods. Feathered friends were together again.

Chattanooga, TN and the NW Georgia area have come to a standstill. I still need to officially measure the snow in my yard. I am guessing I have at least 9 inches! I am so prepared for a snow in.

I need to BEAD!!!

Please Pray For A Special Young Lady

I had the honor and the privilege of meeting a very special young lady during the Summer of 2009. Her name is Amanda. Shortly after I met her she was diagnosed with brain cancer. The challenges this diagnosis has brought her have been more than I think I could handle. I am told that Amanda has faced this battle head on and never complains. That she is an inspiration to everyone around her.

A belated birthday is planned for her this Saturday. Amanda has requested that gifts be brought for children in the hospital or items be brought that sheltered animals could use in lieu of presents for herself.

Amanda has touched my soul. I knew from the moment I met her she was special. I never dreamed she was going to touch my heart in such a big way.
